What is ‘Amanat’ Investor Protection Funds Program?

‘Amanat’ is an Investor Protection Funds Program that aims to ensure investor protection and management and administration of cash dividend distribution for all listed companies through adequate provision for the treatment of unclaimed dividends.

In accordance with Ministerial Cabinet Resolution No. 2020/48-2, Bahrain Bourse established the ‘Amanat’ Investor Protection Funds Program during May 2020 to ensure investor protection and management and administration of cash dividend distribution for all listed companies. As per article (10) of Amanat resolution 3/2020, the right to claim the cash dividends due to the shareholders is imprescriptible.

1. Annual Cash Dividends Fund: Comprises of cash dividends set for distribution to entitled shareholders within a period of six months from the distribution date.
2. Accumulated Cash Dividends: Comprises of unclaimed cash dividends, which are not distributed following six months from the dividend distribution date.

As an Asset Manager of Amanat Funds, Bahrain Clear’s role includes:

• Ensuring appropriate investor protection mechanisms are in place
• Maintaining an update data for the entitled shareholders
• Applying appropriate Policies and Standard Operating Procedures to provide an internal control system
• Reviewing and approving audited statements of the funds
• Submitting appropriate regular reporting to the Board of Directors on the funds management operations
